Luke Luqing Zhou (周鲁青) is a M.A. at Peking University, focusing on research areas including science and technology studies (STS), media studies, and the history of computing, information and communication technologies. During undergraduate studies, he holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.A.in Journalism.
Luqing's research topics revolve around the miscommunication, uncertainty, vulnerabilities and breakdown within computing infrastructure, including themes such as nostalgia, vertigo, pragmatics, and malware. Also, he keeps an eye on public understanding of science and ICTs, e.g. genetic engineering and 5G. Attempting to unpack the "black box", he employs a diverse array of methodologies drawn from history, anthropology, sociology, cultural studies and media archaeology.
His analytical scope spans various objects and machines, such as computer viruses, cash registers, computer graphics software, internationalized domain name system, hydropower station, and discontinued video games. These ideas have been presented at several conferences, including the 4S Meeting, HSS, ICOHTEC, SHOT, Global STS Meeting, ICA, IAMCR, among others.
